Skardu international airport remains open throughout the year. In winter, the flight expectancy becomes very unpredictable due to weather. Intermediate cloudy weather may result in the cancelation of flights.

During snow falling, Skardu international airport also remains closed not because of snow but due to the cloudy weather. Clouds do not hinder a plane in takeoff or landing but the skyscrapers of the Himalayas and Karakoram threaten the crew. A minor misjudgment of the route might result in an unpreparable loss.

The average snowfall in Skardu is roughly 18 to 30 inches in winter. This average is derived from the past stats which may be or may not be true all the time.

Skardu airport got international status in December 2021 which going to be a game-changer for the tourism industry of Gilgit Baltistan as well as Pakistan.

There are two flights from Islamabad to Skardu daily which accommodate around 350 passengers. The flights from Karachi, Lahore, and Multan add roughly 400 passengers to land in Skardu city. Skardu airport could be the most beautiful airport of Pakistan as it is surrounded by high peaks. The landing bed is like a nest in the cold deserts chain of Skardu.
