  • Gilgit-Baltistan is only known for tourism in Pakistan.
  • GB Election is expected to happen on 15 November 2020 in Gilgit Baltistan.
  • Located in the northern part of Pakistan, where Karakoram, Himalaya and Hindukush mountain ranges are located including 8 out of top 20 highest mountain peaks including the second highest mountain K2 Godwin Austin is located.
  • Border of Gilgit Baltistan is connected with India, China and Afghanistan.
  • Gilgit Baltistan self-accession with Pakistan after seeking independence from Maharaja of Kashmir.
  • GB was not considered as independent state and Pakistan intentionally affiliate GB with Kashmir issue, to gain the majority in case of happening any plebiscite. The reason behind attaching GB with Kashmir is due to its Muslim majority population, which considered to be the pro-Pakistani population in the plebiscite on Kashmir issue.
  • Results in the political agenda of affiliation of GB with Kashmir issue, without consent of the people of GB. The region is still nowhere in gaining their basic rights.
  • The legislative assembly is in power in GB. But the real power is in hands of sitting in Islamabad, and the assembly members are just a tool to execute the command given to them and legislative assembly having no power to formulate any law by their own. 
  • Gilgit Baltistan legislative assembly consists of 33 seats: 24 independent electoral seats, 6 women quota and 3 technocrats.
  • GB council having the real power and superior to GB Legislative assembly. 
  • Governor to be elected by the president of Pakistan on the advice of Prime minister of Pakistan.

Hierarchy of GB council are as follows:

  1. Sitting PM as chairman
  2. GB Governor as Vice Chairman
  3. 6 members including CM GB elected from the legislative assembly of GB
  4. 6 members from the state of Pakistan from the federal ministry.
  • The total area of GB is 72000 square kilometres.
  • The total population of GB is approx. 1.2 to 1.5 million.
  • 10 districts in GB.
  • 745000 registered voters and 300 contesters in election 2020.
